How to start the computer in Safe Mode.

Follow these steps to start a computer running the Windows Vista® or Windows® 7 operating system into Safe Mode.

1. Turn on the computer.
2. On the SONY screen, press and hold the F8 key for 7-10 seconds.

   NOTES:

   • The F5 key also may be used on some computer models.
   • If a Please Select Boot Device window appears, press the ESC key, then press the F8 key.

   IMPORTANT: If safe mode is being used to troubleshoot an Internet or network connection issue, choose Safe Mode with Networking in the next step.

3. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the ARROW keys to select Safe Mode.
4. Press the ENTER key.

   NOTE: If a password prompt appears in the Password box, type the password and press the ENTER key.
