How to perform a clean boot.

    To eliminate software conflicts, follow the steps below to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot an issue or issues.

    NOTE: When you perform a clean boot, you may temporarily lose some functionality.

    1. On the taskbar, in the Search the web and Windows field, type MSCONFIG, and then click to select System Configuration in the list of results.

    2. In the System Configuration window, click the Services tab.
    3. On the Services tab, click to place a check in the check box next to Hide all Microsoft services, and then click the Disable all button.
    4. In the System Configuration window, click the Startup tab.
    5. On the Startup tab, click Open Task Manager.
    6. In the Task Manager window, click each Startup item in turn, and then click the Disable button.
    7. Once all Startup items have been disabled, click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Task Manager window.
    8. On the System Configuration screen, click OK, and then restart the computer.

    Once the troubleshooting has been completed, to reset the computer to start as usual, perform these steps:

    1. On the taskbar, in the Search the web and Windows field, type MSCONFIG, and then click to select System Configuration in the list of results.
    2. In the System Configuration window, on the General tab, click the Normal Startup option.
    3. Click the Services tab, click to remove the check from the next to Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Enable all.
    4. In the System Configuration window, click the Startup tab.
    5. On the Startup tab, click Open Task Manager.
    6. In the Task Manager window, enable all of your startup programs.
    7. Once all Startup items have been enabled, click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Task Manager window.
    8. On the System Configuration screen, click OK.
    9. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart.
