Does the High-Resolution (Hi-Res) audio technology work with standard headphones or speakers? Do I need Hi-Res labeled headphones or speakers to enjoy Hi-Res audio?
In order to fully enjoy Hi-Res quality sound, all the equipment involved in your system should be Hi-Res compatible. Hi-Res audio won't work if either of the devices in your system isn't Hi-Res compatible. We recommend to use devices with the Hi-Res AUDIO label.
Note: Some devices support Hi-Res even though they don't have the label. Check your device manual for more details.
Can I get Hi-Res audio when I connect my Hi-Res device to Bluetooth® speakers?
Bluetooth technology doesn't meet the Hi-Res specifications due to bandwidth limitations. Therefore, you can't hear Hi-Res audio when you use Bluetooth speakers. However, devices such as the NWZ-ZX2 Walkman® player with the LDAC technology offer an enhanced wireless listening experience for all your music. LDAC is a new audio technology that allows you to enjoy high quality wireless audio over a Bluetooth connection, with three times more data transmitted than with standard Bluetooth technology.
Is music converted automatically to higher resolution audio on tablets, such as the Xperia™ Z3 Compact tablet?
Unfortunately, you can't convert non Hi-Res audio into Hi-Res audio. However, devices with the Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) HX feature will emulate the details lost during compression with MP3 files and similar compression formats, in order to offer a superior listening experience.
