How to play a Dolby Atmos audio using a Multi Channel AV receiver or Soundbar

You'll need the following to enjoy Blu-ray Disc™ media or streaming services in Dolby Atmos® audio format using a Multi Channel AV receiver or Soundbar:

• A ceiling speaker or Soundbar that supports Dolby Atmos
  • Make sure the Soundbar software is updated to the latest version. To get the latest update, go to the .
• A Premium High-Speed HDMI® cable with ethernet
• A Blu-ray Disc player and Blu-ray Discs that are compatible with Dolby Atmos

Steps to connect and play content in Dolby Atmos format

1. Connect your devices to play Dolby Atmos format

   Connecting a multi-channel A/V receiver or Soundbar to the Blu-ray Disc player and the TV using an HDMI (eARC) connection.

   When connected to the HDMI (eARC/ARC) port on your TV:

   • You can play Dolby Atmos format content output from the TV
   • You can play Dolby Atmos format content output from a device, such as a Blu-ray Disc player

   Connection instructions:

   1. Connect the Multi Channel AV receiver or Soundbar HDMI OUT eARC/ARC port to the TV HDMI IN eARC/ARC port using an HDMI cable (D).
   2. Connect the playback device's HDMI OUT port to the TV or Soundbar HDMI IN port using an HDMI cable (E).
      Note: You can connect an HDMI cable to the HDMI IN port of either the TV or Soundbar, but not to both ports.
      
      1. Soundbar
      2. TV
      3. Blu-ray Disc player
      4. High-Speed HDMI cable
   3. Enable the eARC function for the Soundbar.
      Note: The procedure for enabling the eARC function will differ depending on the Soundbar model. For details, refer to your product manual.

      Examples:

      • HT-Z9F example
        1. Press the HOME button on the remote control, and then select Setup → Advanced Settings → HDMI Settings → eARC → On.
        2. In the HDMI Settings, select HDMI Signal Format, then select Enhanced format.
      • HT-A7000 example
        1. Press the HOME button on the remote control, and then select Setup → Advanced Settings → HDMI Settings.
        2. In the HDMI Settings, select eARC, then select On or Auto.
   4. Check the HDMI settings of the TV.
      Note: The procedure for enabling the eARC function may differ depending on the TV model. For details, refer to the product manuals .
      1. In the HDMI Settings, select eARC and set it to On.
      2. In the HDMI Settings, select HDMI Signal Format, then select Enhanced format.
   5. When you are using an AV amplifier (STR-xxx), check the following
      • Connect the ceiling speaker or Dolby Atmos-enabled speaker to the AV amplifier. In the Speaker Settings, set the Speaker Pattern to x.x.2 (e.g. 5.1.2 (TM), 5.1.2 (FD)), and then select Height/Overhead Speakers or Dolby Atmos enabled speaker to match your speaker configuration. For details, refer to the manual or Help Guide of the AV Amplifier. Manuals are posted on your model support page.
      • Set the Sound Field to A.F.D.

   Connecting a multi-channel A/V receiver or Soundbar to a Blu-ray Disc player and a TV that's not compatible with HDMI (eARC)

   When connected to a TV that's not compatible with HDMI (eARC):

   • You can only play Dolby Atmos format content output from a playback device, such as a Blu-ray Disc player
   • You will not be able to play Dolby Atmos format content output from the TV

   Connection instructions:

   1. Connect the Multi Channel AV receiver or Soundbar HDMI OUT eARC/ARC port to the TV HDMI IN port using an HDMI cable (D).
   2. Connect the playback device's HDMI OUT port to the Soundbar HDMI IN port using an HDMI cable (E).

   Connecting a multi-channel A/V receiver or Soundbar to a Blu-ray Disc player and a TV that doesn't support Dolby Atmos or HDMI (eARC)

   When connected to a TV that doesn't support Dolby Atmos or HDMI (eARC):

   • You will not be able to play Dolby Atmos format content output from the TV
   • If the Soundbar has an HDMI IN port, you can play Dolby Atmos format content output from a playback device, such as a Blu-ray Disc player

   Connection instructions:

   1. Connect the Multi Channel AV receiver or Soundbar HDMI OUT eARC/ARC port to the TV HDMI IN port using an HDMI cable.
   2. Connect the playback device's HDMI OUT port to the Soundbar HDMI IN port using an HDMI cable.
      
      
      1. Soundbar
      2. TV
      3. Blu-ray Disc player
      4. High-Speed HDMI cable

2. Adjust the settings on these devices depending on your setup:

   Multi-channel A/V receiver

   1. Select the speaker pattern according to the speaker configuration you're using.
      1. On the supplied remote control, press the HOME button.
      2. Select Setup → Speaker Settings → Speaker Pattern.
      3. Select the speaker pattern under Listener-level Speakers and Height/Overhead Speakers.
         • Refer to the speaker installation example displayed on your TV screen.
         • Select 5.1.2 (TM) for top middle speakers or 5.1.2 (FD) for Dolby Atmos-enabled speakers.
      4. Select Save.
   2. Set the Sound Field to A.F.D (Auto Format Decoding).
      1. Press the HOME button.
      2. Select Setup → Audio Settings → Sound Field → 2CH/MULTI → A.F.D (Auto Format Decoding).

      You can press the 2CH/MULTI button on the receiver's front panel or the supplied remote control to select the sound field.

   Blu-ray Disc player

   Follow the steps below to turn off the Audio Settings:

   1. On the supplied remote, press the HOME button.
   2. Select Setup.
   3. Under Setup, select Audio Settings.
   4. Depending on your model, select BD Secondary Audio, Digital Music Enhancer, BD Secondary Audio, or BD Audio Mix Setting.
   5. Select Off.

   Note: For third-party Blu-ray Disc players, contact the manufacturer for further information.

3. From the Blu-ray Disc menu, choose the sound or language setting for Dolby Atmos.

   • The options to set the audio format depend on the disc. Check the documents supplied with the disc for more information.

Playing Dolby Atmos content from a TV network streaming service (such as Netflix®)

To play Dolby Atmos content from a TV network streaming service, check the following:

• Verify that your TV supports Dolby Atmos. Check your TV manuals for additional information.
• Verify that your network streaming service membership supports Dolby Atmos content.
• Make sure Dolby Atmos is enabled for your TV's audio output.
• Select content that supports Dolby Atmos. You should see a Dolby Atmos icon next to the content description.
• Select the audio or language which supports Dolby Atmos in the audio option.
