Preparation
Your firmware may already be up to date, especially if you have a new AV Receiver. If the version number is M29.R.0534 or higher, you do not need to update.
If you're not sure, it's easy to check which version of firmware you have:
- Turn on your TV and check it's tuned to the input your AV Receiver is connected to, so if the AV Receiver is connected to the HDMI2 socket, choose HDMI2 as the input.
- Turn on the AV Receiver.
- On the remote control, press HOME and wait until you see the HOME screen.
- On the remote control, press HOME then, using the arrow buttons, select Setup → System Settings → System Information, and press ENTER
- On the TV screen, if the version number is M29.R.0534 or higher, you already have the most recent firmware version.

Updating your AV Receiver over the Internet
We recommend this method as it is the simplest way to update. It usually takes about 15-60 minutes. First set up the equipment, then download the update over the internet to your AV receiver.
What you need:
- An active internet connection (using Ethernet cable or wireless router)
- A compatible TV
How to make sure the update goes smoothly
Updating is usually very simple. Here's how you can make sure it goes right first time:
- Read the instructions carefully or you could end up damaging your AV receiver
- Don't turn the AV receiver off or disconnect it from the power while it's updating
- Don't press any buttons, except the ones mentioned in the instructions
Set up the equipment:
- Turn on your TV and check it's tuned to the input your AV receiver is connected to. (So if the receiver is connected to the HDMI2 socket, choose HDMI2 as the input).
- Connect the AV receiver to your internet source using an Ethernet cable or wireless connection via router.
- Turn on the AV receiver.
Get the update:
- At the Home menu, use the arrow keys on the remote control to select Setup → System Settings → Software Update → Update via Internet and then press ENTER.
- When the message A new software version has been found on the network. Do you want to update the software? is displayed, select OK and then press ENTER.
- When the message Update to a new software version. Never turn off power while performing update. Current version M29.R.XXXX New version M29.R.0534 is displayed, select Start, and then press ENTER.
- The update starts.
- The following message will be displayed: When update starts, UPDATING will be displayed on the display window of the receiver. Update takes up to 60 minutes. When update is finished, COMPLETE will be displayed on the displays window of the receiver, and the receiver will restart automatically. Do not disconnect the power cord during the update process..
Note: It takes approximately 5 minutes to start the update, once the software has been downloaded. Select OK, and then press ENTER. - During the update, you will see message UPDATING on the display window.
- The firmware upgrade is completed when the message COMPLETE is displayed
- The AV receiver will automatically restart once the upgrade completes.
- Check the firmware version. If the version number is M29.R.0534, the firmware update was successful.
Troubleshooting
What to do if you have problems updating your AV receiver firmware using the internet.
- The message Update failed. Connect the USB memory containing the update files or connect to the network to retry. If the update fails again, please contact the customer service center is displayed on the TV screen.
- Make sure the router and all devices connected between the AV receiver and the router are switched on.
- Make sure the correct type of cable (straight or crossover) between the AV receiver and the router is used.
- Make sure all the cables between the AV receiver and the router are correctly connected.
- Try the update procedure again.
Note: If you cannot perform the Update via Internet procedure, try the Update via USB Memory procedure. - After the Update via Internet procedure has started, the message Download capacity: xxxxxxKB/xxxxxKB and xx% is display in TV screen is displayed but the progress bar on the display has not changed. Depending on the network connection, the Update via Internet procedure can take a long time (up to 60 minutes). That is why the message Download capacity: xxxxxxKB/xxxxxKB and xx% is display in TV screen is displayed and the progress bar on the display will not change for a long time.
- If, when running the Update via Internet procedure, the TV displays the message, Connection status cannot be confirmed. Cannot communicate with the server. Please try again later. and you cannot perform the firmware upgrade:
- Make sure the LAN cable is connected.
- Make sure you have confirmed whether or not your AV receiver has its own IP address in the network settings (If you use a proxy server, type the IP address of the proxy you use into the Proxy Server field instead of the proxy host name).
- Try the update again.
- If the power went off while the update was in progress. turn the AV receiver on and try the update again.
- If the update has been going for over 90 minutes and hasn't finished and the AV Receiver is connected via wireless to the network, connect with a cable to the network and try the procedure again. If the problem continues, the network transmission speed may be low. In that case please try to update your system following the Update via USB Memory procedure.
- If the message This device is not connected to network. Perform network diagnostics in the connection server setting is displayed on TV screen, check whether the LAN cable is connected to AV receiver.
- If the message Already Updated is displayed on TV screen, the firmware version currently installed on the AV receiver is the latest version.
Update via USB Memory
We recommend you use the internet to update if you can. If not, you can use this method instead. You'll download the update to your computer, transfer it to a USB memory device, then transfer it to your AV Receiver.
We recommend the following operating systems:
- Windows 10 or 8.1
- macOS 10.12 — 10.15, 11
- Mac OS X
How to make sure the update goes smoothly
Updating is usually very simple. Here's how you can make sure it works first time:

Download the update to your computer:
- Read and agree to the terms and conditions.
- Download the file UPDATE_M29R0534.zip to your computer, being sure to remember the location to which it was saved.
- Find the file on your computer, right-click on it and click Properties. Check the size is 219 MB (229 809 722 bytes)
Save to the USB Memory:
- Extract the file to your computer:
- For Mac: Go to the location where the file was downloaded and double-click the UPDATE_M29R0534.zip file. The extracted folder is called UPDATE.
- For Windows:
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded, right-click the UPDATE_M29R0534.zip file, and then click Extract All.
- At the Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders window, click Extract.
- A new folder will be created called UPDATE.
- Make sure that these four files are included inside UPDATE folder: MSB29-FW.BIN, MSB29-FW.ID, MSB29-FW_MB.BIN, and MSB29-FW_MB.ID.
- Connect a compatible USB storage device to your computer.
- For Mac: Drag and drop the UPDATE folder to the root folder of the USB device.
- For Windows:
- Go to the directory where the folder was created, and right-click the UPDATE folder.
- From the menu, click Send To....
- Click the drive that represents your USB device (e.g. Removable Disk E:.)
- The UPDATE folder will be copied onto your USB device.
Transfer the update to your AV Receiver
First get the equipment ready, then transfer the update to your AV Receiver.
Get the equipment ready:
- Turn on your TV and check it's tuned to the input your AV Receiver is connected to. (So if the AV Receiver is connected to the HDMI2 socket, choose HDMI2 as the input).
- Turn on the AV Receiver.
- Make sure no other USB devices are connected to the AV Receiver, if there are, please unplug it from the AV Receiver.
Transfer the update:
- Insert the USB storage device containing the update file into USB port located on the front panel of the AV Receiver.
- At the Home menu, use the arrow keys on the remote control to select Setup → System Settings → Software Update → Update via USB Memory and then press ENTER.
- The message Update files found in the USB memory. Do you want to update software? Current version M29.R.XXXX New version M29.R.0534. Do not turn off the power or remove the USB memory during the update. is displayed on the TV screen. Select OK, and then press ENTER.
- The following message will be displayed on the TV screen: When update starts, UPDATING will be displayed on the display window of the receiver. Update takes up to 60 minutes. When update is finished, COMPLETE will be displayed on the displays window of the receiver, and the receiver will restart automatically. Do not disconnect the power cord during the update process.. Select OK, and then press ENTER.
- The update starts.
- During the update, you will see message UPDATING on the display window.
- The firmware upgrade is completed when the message COMPLETE displays on the display window.
Note: Don't turn the AV Receiver off or disconnect it from the power while it's updating. - The AV Receiver will automatically turn off after the update is complete. Don't use or turn off the AV Receiver until the update is complete.
- Take the USB device out of the AV receiver and turn the receiver on.
- Check the firmware version. If the version number is M29.R.0534, the firmware update was successful.
Troubleshooting
What to do if you have problems updating your AV receiver firmware using your computer and a USB storage device.
- If UPDATE and ERROR are displayed alternately on the display window of the receiver:
- Turn off the system and disconnect the AC power cord.
- Turn on the power of the AV Receiver.
- Try the Update via USB Memory procedure again using a different USB storage device.
- If the power went off while the update was in progress, turn on the AV Receiver and follow the Update via USB Memory procedure again.
- If the UPDATE_M29R0534.zip update file you downloaded from the update web site cannot be extracted delete the file and download it again.
- If the update has been going for over 90 minutes and hasn't finished:
- Disconnect the AC power cord from the mains, then reconnect it after several minutes.
- Turn on the AV Receiver.
- Try the update procedure again.
