    • This utility updates the camera firmware to version 2.10 and provides the following benefits:

      Improvements over version 2.00:

      • Improves the power-on time after downloading the Smart Remote Control application of the PlayMemories Camera Apps™

      Benefits provided by previous updates and included in version 2.10:

      • Enables remote movie shooting using a smartphone
        Notes:
        • The pre-installed smart remote control application of the PlayMemories Cameras Apps™ supports only still images on the DSC-HX400V and DSC-HX60V cameras.
        • For movie shooting, using the smart remote control function, ensure the "PlayMemories Mobile" app is updated to the latest version (Ver. 3.10 or later). It will be available at the beginning of November from the Google Play™ online store for Android™ devices and from the iTunes® App Store for iOS devices.

    Before You Start

    Determine if Your Camera Needs the Update

    This update is only for DSC-HX400 and DSC-HX400V cameras that currently have firmware version 2.00 or earlier. If your camera firmware version is already version 2.10, this update is not necessary.

    Check the version of your camera firmware:

    1. Power on the camera.
    2. On the camera, select "MENU", "General Settings", and then "Version".
    3. If the version number is Ver. 2.10, the camera does not need this update.

    Important Notes

    1. Remove the memory card from the camera
    2. Ensure the camera battery is fully charged.

    Download & Install

    Download and Update the Firmware

    1. Download the Update_DSCHX400VV210.dmg file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
    2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Update_DSCHX400VV210.dmg.
      Note: Do not connect the camera to the computer yet.
    3. Double-click the "Firmware Updater" Firmware Updater Icon icon.
    4. At the Password prompt screen, enter the Name and Password for the administrative account, and then click "OK".

    5. At the "Firmware Updater" screen, please follow the instructions.
    6. Power on the camera.
    7. Make sure the USB Connection Setting is set to "Mass Storage".
      On the camera, select "MENU", "Setup","USB Connection", and then ensure "Mass Storage" is selected.

    8. Ensure the memory card is removed from the camera.
    9. Connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cable.
      Note: When the camera is connected to the computer, the LCD screen of the camera turns off. If the LCD screen of the camera dose not turn off, try disconnecting and reconnection the USB cable or try another USB port on the computer. Then proceed to the next step.
    10. At the "Firmware Updater" screen, click "Next".

      WARNING!: Do not power off the camera or disconnect the USB cable until the update process is complete.
    11. When the updater recognizes the camera connection, the next "Firmware Updater" screen is displayed on the computer, and the camera screen displays "Follow the instructions on the computer".

    12. At the "Firmware Updater" screen, click "Next".

    13. When the following screen is displayed, check the version number at the lower left.

      If the current version is "2.00 or earlier", click "Next".
      Note: If the current version is "2.10", your camera does not need this update. Stop the USB connection and click "Finish". Then power off the camera, briefly remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then power on the camera again.
    14. To perform the firmware update, follow the steps to reset the camera.
    15. Reset the camera:
      On the camera, press the center of the control wheel to execute reset.

      Note: The camera screen turns off when the button is pushed.
    16. At the "Firmware Updater" screen, click "Next".

    17. After resetting, reconnection of the camera is verified, and the next Firmware Updater screen appears.
    18. When the following screen is displayed, click "Run".
      Note: The update process takes about fifteen minutes to complete.

      WARNING!: Do not power off the camera or disconnect the USB cable until the update process is complete.
    19. When the following screen is displayed, click "Finish".

    20. You may now disconnect the USB cable.
    1. On the camera, select "MENU", "Setup", and then "Version".
    2. If the version number is Ver. 2.10, the camera firmware was successfully updated.
