What is the BIOS, and what happens when the BIOS configuration is reset to the default values?

The Basic Input/Output System (BIOS), sometimes referred to as CMOS, is an interface for the computer's hardware and software, and determines how the computer hardware is accessed. Resetting the BIOS configuration to the default values may require the settings for any added hardware devices to be reconfigured but will not affect the data stored on the computer.
