This utility updates the system firmware and provides the following benefits:
- Allows the camera to record XAVCS format video with an SDHC card in addition to SDXC card.Notes:
- When an SDHC memory card is used to record movies in XAVC S format over extended periods of time, the recorded movies will be divided into files of 4 GB, and the divided files can then be integrated into a single file using the Action Cam Movie Creator or PlayMemories Home software
- Shooting movies in XAVC S format requires SD Speed Class 10, UHS Speed Class U1, or faster
- When recording at 100 Mbps or more, UHS Speed Class U3 is required
- Allows the camera to record XAVCS format video with an SDHC card in addition to SDXC card.

Before You Start
Determine if Your Camera Needs the Update
This update is only for FDR-AX33 and FDR-AXP33 cameras that currently have firmware version 1.00. If your camera firmware version is already Version 1.10 or higher, this update is not necessary.
Check the version of your camera firmware:
- Power on the camera.
- On the camera, select Menu, General Settings, and then Version.
- If the version number is Ver. 1.10 or higher, the camera does not need this update.

- This utility is only for use with the Sony®
FDR-AX33 and FDR-AXP33 cameras. Do not install this utility with any other model. - WARNING!!: This firmware update and any changes incurred by it are permanent. It is not possible to return to a previous firmware version after updating this firmware. By continuing this update process and downloading and updating this firmware, you acknowledge that you are aware and understand that this update cannot be reversed.
- This update process requires the following items for proper updating:
- A computer with:
- Available Hard Disk Space: 500 MB or more
- Installed Memory (RAM): 512 MB or more
- A USB port.
- Mac OS X® version 10.9 - 10.11
- Camera power supply:
- This update can only be performed when the remaining battery level has three bars or more. When performing the firmware update, it's recommended to use a fully charged NP-FV70 rechargeable battery pack or AC adapter. WARNING!!: The camera may not operate properly if the power is interrupted during the update.

- To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
- It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

Download and Update the Firmware
Go to Table of Contents
- Download the Update_FDRAX33NMV110.dmg file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
- Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the Update_FDRAX33NMV110.dmg file to begin the System Software Updater. Note: Do not connect the camera yet.
- On the desktop, double-click the SystemSoftwareUpdater icon.
- At the Password prompt screen, enter the Name and Password for the administrative account, and then click OK.
- At the System Software Updater screen, please follow the instructions.
- Power on the camera.
- Make sure the USB Connect Setting is set to Mass Storage.
On the camera, select Menu, Setup, Connection, USB Connect Setting, and then ensure Mass Storage is selected. - Ensure the memory card is removed from the camera.
- Connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cable. On the LCD screen of the camera, USB Mode appears. After confirming the connection from the LCD screen of the camera, at the System Software Updater screen, click Next.
- At the System Software Updater screen, check the version number at the lower left. Note: If the current version is 1.10 or higher, your camera does not need this update. Stop the USB connection and then click the Finish button on the System Software Updater screen. Then power off the camera, briefly remove the battery pack or the AC adaptor, and then power on the camera again.If the current version is 1.00, click Next to continue with the update.
- The camera automatically resets and the following screen appears.
- After automatically resetting, the System Software Updater screen appears with the progress bar while updating (approximately 15 minutes). WARNING!!: Do not power off the camera or disconnect the USB cable until the update process is complete.
- When the update is completed, the camera will automatically restart. Make sure the camera is powered on and wait until the LCD screen appears again. When the LCD screen appears, click Finish and disconnect the USB cable.
Check the Firmware Version After Updating (optional)

Please follow the steps below to confirm that the firmware was successfully updated:
- On the camera, select Menu, General Settings, and then Version.
- If the version number is Ver. 1.10, the camera firmware was successfully updated.
