There is no sound or the sound from the Rear speaker is too low
Check before you start:
- The rear speaker plays surround sound as part of the multi-channel sound or is virtually processed from the 2-channel sound. Because of the characteristics of the rear speaker, the sound may be low depending on the playback source.
Follow these steps to troubleshoot this issue:

- Turn up the volume of the rear speaker.
- For the Sony | BRAVIA Connect-compatible models: Tap Rear level in the Sony | BRAVIA Connect app.
- For other models, press the Rear speaker volume +/- button on the soundbar remote control.
- If Night mode is set to ON, set it to OFF.
- Make sure the Sound Field Optimization is complete:
- For BRAVIA Theatre Quad (HT-A9M2), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9 (HT-A9000), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 8 (HT-A8000):
- In the Sony | BRAVIA Connect app, select your model in My Devices.
- Select Settings.
- Select Sound Settings.
- Select Sound Field Optimization, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- For other models:
- On the remote control, press the HOME button.
- Select Setup.
- Select Advanced Settings.
- Select Speaker Settings.
- Select Sound Field Optimization, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- For BRAVIA Theatre Quad (HT-A9M2), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9 (HT-A9000), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 8 (HT-A8000):
- Play the Test Tone or sample music:
- Use the Test Tone function:
- For BRAVIA Theatre Quad (HT-A9M2), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9 (HT-A9000), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 8 (HT-A8000):
- In the Sony | BRAVIA Connect app, select your model in My Devices.
- Select Settings.
- Select Sound Settings.
- Select Sound Output Check.
- Select Test Tone, and tap Play.
Note: Tap Stop to stop the Test Tone.
- For HT-S2000:
- In the Sony | BRAVIA Connect app, select your model in My Devices.
- Select Settings.
- Select Sound Settings.
- Select Speaker positioning and volume settings, and play the Test Tone.
- For other models:
- On the remote control, press the HOME button.
- Select Setup.
- Select Advanced Settings.
- Select Speaker Settings.
- Select Manual Speaker Settings.
- Select Test Tone, and then select On.
Note: Select Off to stop the Test Tone.
- For BRAVIA Theatre Quad (HT-A9M2), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9 (HT-A9000), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 8 (HT-A8000):
- Play the sample music following any of the steps:
- For BRAVIA Theatre Quad (HT-A9M2), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9 (HT-A9000), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 8 (HT-A8000):
- In the Sony | BRAVIA Connect app, select your model in My Devices.
- Select Settings.
- Select Sound Settings.
- Select Sound Output Check.
- Select Demo Sound, and tap Play the demo.
Note: Tap Stop the demo to stop the sample music.
- For other models:
- Press and hold the Input select button on the bar speaker for more than 5 seconds to start playing the Dolby ATMOS sample music.
- Press and hold the MUSIC SERVICE button on the bar speaker for more than 5 seconds to start playing the 360 Spatial Sound Mapping sample music.
- For BRAVIA Theatre Quad (HT-A9M2), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9 (HT-A9000), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 8 (HT-A8000):
- Use the Test Tone function:
- Depending on the SOUND FIELD and sound source settings combination, some speakers may not output sound. By pressing IMMERSIVE AE or SOUND FIELD to turn on the surround effect, the speaker system up-mixes audio signals, and sound is output from all speakers. Notes:
- BRAVIA Theatre Quad (HT-A9M2), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 9 (HT-A9000), BRAVIA Theatre Bar 8 (HT-A8000)/HT-S2000: In the Sony | BRAVIA Connect app, select your model in My Devices, and set Sound Field to ON.
- For HT-A7000: On the remote control, press the IMMERSIVE AE button, and select Immersive Audio Enhancement: On.
- For HT-A5000 and HT-A3000: On the remote control, press the SOUND FIELD button, and select Sound Field: Effect On or SF.ON.

- Depending on the source, such as Dolby Atmos®, some settings are always set to ON and can't be changed.
