There's no picture from a Blu-ray Disc Player and the TV screen is completely black or flashes

This may be an indication that there is a loose connection or an incorrect setting.

    Before You Start

    • Check if the picture is displayed on the TV screen after completing each step.
    • This solution assumes the player is connected directly to the TV. However, if the player is connected to an Audio/Video (A/V) receiver, the steps given below about the TV should also be followed for the receiver.
    • The steps provided are general guidelines. Check your product manual if model-specific information is needed to complete any step. Manuals are posted on your model support page.
    • A separate article is available if you have a 2015 Blu-ray Disc™ player and a blue screen appears that also prevents you from operating the Blu-ray Disc player.

    Solution

Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue.

    1. Make sure the TV is set to the correct video input to receive the signal from the player.
      • Depending on the TV remote control, it may have a TV/VIDEO or INPUT button.

Note: For third-party TVs, check your manual or contact the manufacturer for more information.

    2. If the issue still occurs, turn off the player and TV and turn it back on.
    3. Check the cable between the player and TV to make sure it is securely connected to both products.
      • Try the steps below for HDMI® connections.
        1. Turn off the player and all other connected equipment.
        2. Disconnect the HDMI cable and then reconnect it.
        3. Turn on the connected equipment.
        4. Turn on the player.
    4. On the player remote control, press the MENU button to display the menu.

IMPORTANT: If the player menu doesn't appear, skip steps 6, 7, and 8, and proceed to step 9. Otherwise, continue with the steps below.

    5. Make sure the video output setting of the player is either set to Auto or to the type of connection being used.

    6. If using an HDMI connection make the following changes:

Note: The steps below aren't available on all players.

      1. In the Screen/Video Settings setup, set the BD/DVD ROM 1080/24P output to Off.
      2. Set the HDMI Deep Color output to Off.
      3. Set the X.V. Color output to Off (this option isn't available on some models).
      4. Make sure that the HDMI control setting is set to Off. If you have a different manufacturer Blu-ray Disc player, this setting may be called CEC control or the AnyNet function.
    7. Make sure your devices have the latest firmware or software updates. Downloads are posted on your model support page.
    8. Use a different cable between the devices.
