How to ensure the Windows Audio Service is set to run automatically and the service status is started.

    Follow this procedure to ensure the Windows Audio Service is set to run automatically and the service status is started.

    1. Click the Start button, and then click Run.
    2. In the Run window, type MSCONFIG.
    3. In the System Configuration Utility window, click the Services tab.
    4. On the Services tab, click to clear the check in the box next to Windows Audio.
    5. Restart the Computer.
    6. Click the Start button, and then click Control Panel.
    7. In the Control Panel window, under Pick a category, double-click the Performance and Maintenance icon.
    8. In the Performance and Maintenance window, under or pick a Control Panel icon, double-click the Administrative Tools icon.
    9. In the Administrative Tools window, double-click the Services icon.
    10. In the Services window, double-click Windows Audio.
    11. In the Windows Audio Properties window, next to Startup type click the down arrow and then click to select Automatic.
    12. Click the Apply button.
    13. Under Service Status, click the Start button.
    14. Click the OK button.
    15. In the Administrative Tools window, click the X in the upper right corner to close the window.
    16. In the Services window, click the X in the upper right corner to close the window.
    17. Click the Start button, and then click Run.
    18. In the Run window, type MSCONFIG.
    19. In the System Configuration Utility window, click the Services tab.
    20. On the Services tab, click to place a check in the box next to Windows Audio.
    21. Restart the Computer.

      NOTE: The Windows Audio Service should not stop unless a user manually stops the service.
