How to connect a turntable (record player) to a stereo system.

To connect a turntable to a stereo system, the stereo system should have a PHONO input. If a PHONO input is not available, the turntable must have a built-in amplifier or an in-line amplifier must be used to connect the turntable to another input on the stereo system.

NOTE: Sony does not produce an in-line amplifier.

One of the following options should be selected if the turntable has an EQ setting:

    • When connecting with a PHONO input, the EQ switch on the turntable should be set to OFF.
    • When a PHONO input is not available, the EQ switch on the turntable should be set to ON.

One of the following options should be selected if the turntable has a PHONO/LINE setting:

    • If the receiver has a PHONO input available, set the PHONO/LINE switch to PHONO.
    • If the receiver does not have a PHONO input, set the PHONO/LINE switch to LINE.
