What is the PHONO/LINE or the EQ switch on Sony® turntables used for?

The PHONO/LINE switch (found on most current models) or the EQ switch (found on previous models) activates the internal amplifier of the turntable. These switches should be set according to the inputs on the connected Audio/Video (A/V) stereo receiver:

    1. A turntable with a PHONO/LINE switch:
      • If the A/V receiver has a PHONO input available, set the PHONO/LINE switch to PHONO.
      • If the A/V receiver does not have a PHONO input, set the PHONO/LINE switch to LINE.
    2. A turntable with an EQ switch:
      • If the A/V receiver has a PHONO input available, set the EQ switch to OFF.
      • If the A/V receiver does not have a PHONO input, set the EQ switch to ON.

NOTE: If the PHONO/LINE or the EQ switch is not set correctly, this will result in low audio from the turntable.
