There is no video when trying to use the built-in camera with a video conferencing and messaging service.
The camera built-in to VAIO® computers can be used to take pictures or as a webcam with several third-party video conferencing and messaging services. If there is no video or a blank screen when attempting to use the webcam with a particular service, it is likely that the service is not properly configured to use the camera.
IMPORTANT: Before beginning this procedure, download and install all available driver, system and application updates. Downloads are posted on your model support page.
NOTES:
- Turning on the computer activates the camera, but launching the video conferencing and messaging service software does not necessarily activate the camera within that software. You may have to activate the camera from within the software.
- The camera cannot be shared by different applications. If one software application is using the camera, exit that software before attempting to use the camera with a different application.
- In order to have a successful video conference, the person you are calling must also have a webcam or video capture device, and must also have their messaging service software properly configured for video conferencing.
- All of the third-party video conferencing and messaging service software referenced in this article can be obtained from the appropriate Web site.
Click to select the desired application and follow the instruction provided to set up the service and properly select the camera.
